New car theft sceem
My uncle just emailed this to me and thought id share.
Seems that car thieves have found yet another way to
steal your car ortruck without any effort at all. The car thieves
peerthrough thewindshield of your car or truck, write down the VIN
#from the label onthe dash, go to the local car dealership and request
aduplicate keybased on the VIN #.
My friend didn't believe this e-mail, so she called
Chrysler-Dodge andpretended she had lost her keys. They told her to
justbring in the VIN#, and they would cut her one on the spot, and she
couldorder thekeyless device if she wanted.
The Car Dealer's Parts Department will make aduplicatekey from the
VIN#, and collect payment from the thief who will
returnto your car. Hedoesn't have to break in, do any damage to the
vehicle,or drawattention to himself. All he has to do is walk up to
your car, insertthe key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop with
yourvehicle.
You don't believe it? It IS that easy.
To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some
tape (electricaltape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN
MetalLabel located onthe dash board. By law, you cannot remove the VIN,
butyou can coverit so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a
carthief.I urge you to forward this to your friends before
someother car thiefsteals another car or truck. I slipped a 3 x 5 card
overthe VIN NUMBER

RE: New car theft sceem
That doesn't work at the local Audi dealerships around here. You have to bring proof of ownership, either the bill of sale or title. Or one of the keys. That might have worked in the 80's but I seriously doubt it would work today. Sounds like you just copy/pasted a chain email.

RE: New car theft scheme
I may have posted a chain letter but it was new 2 me and could see how it would work with the right connections. I'm going to put my business card there anyhow, cant hurt nothin.

RE: New car theft scheme
As far as I know it is not illegal to "cover" your VIN, but officer's who aren't aware of this method of stealing cars would probably assume your car is stolen if you hide it. Anyhow good post.
