That seems crazy. I can understand that you aren't eligible for discounts without subscribing to data... but you should be able to use the phone without data. I'd verify that!

Thats what I was told at the verizon store last week.... She said it was to make sure people don't accidentally run up a huge bill by using the internet and whatnot
