if u lived in texas and drove that road u would understand why they are raising it. No to mention most stretches of roads in texas are pretty much in the middle of nowhere so people drive that fast either way. though i love how people say if u go fast more accident will happen. I wouldnt doubt most of those people are the ones on their cells or eating or drinking while driving not realizing they are the ones causing the accidents.

Actually, the number of accidents go DOWN as the speed increases, but the percentage of those accidents with fatalities goes UP (understandably).

Either way, speed limit on I-89 in VT is 65, I regularly run about 85 on the bike, which is pretty much on the upper side of average commuter speed in the morning.

Too bad most people only see the fatalities going up. I think no matter what people will always go over the speed limit. but all in all its a good decesion to rise the limit in those rural areas. Most people just dont realize that there is nothing out there whats the harm in it?

We could learn a lot from Germany and the autobahn, starting with a REAL driver education program instead of giving licenses to 16 year old kids who can manage to navigate a street without hitting anything for 10 minutes.

They're really not any better here. Blinker use in the city is non-existent, lane discipline is horrible on the autobahn. Every time I go somewhere, some a-hole will pull in front of me with no blinker, scary at 80+ MPH. European truck drivers are 10 times worse than American. Their truck are governed to 90 kmh, some will do 91 and they will always try to pass, causing a 20 km stau. The grass isn't always greener. But I can go as fast as I want in some places.

I'd at least like to see a somewhat involved course in driving before handing out a license.

If you choose to be an ******* after that, well, thats your ******* option.

I'd like to believe that actually learning proper driving, and *gasp* how pushing down the accelerator pedal makes your car move -would benefit at least some of the non-******* population.
