I thought my uncle was messing with me about needing to get a different route to his house in ND till I seen the Yahoo news. This part of the report tells methe state had known it needed to some repair 2 years ago.

I am leaving from Joliet, IL. to go to Minot, ND. Sunday morning and have no clue what to do now. [&o]It's kind of messed up that just last week I was talking to my uncle on the phone and told him "It will take a major disaster to stop me from visiting this year"

 

Depending on how you come up...you shouldnt have to come across that road at all..... i would think youre taking 94 up through wisconsin correct? take that all the way up through fargo.... Let me know how youre coming up and i can reroute you as needed.

Yeah...i think they might be blowing out this scale on bridges a lil out of hand... THeyve (the media) been saying that 40-50% of bridges are "deficient" etc... but yes, evidently something was wrong with the bridge. heard stuff from some people that crossed it 30 min previous and heard felt shaking and something didnt feel right....

Yep..thats just the way i was saying.... You should be fine..youre decently north of it... depends also what time of day you roll through the city....there may be increased traffic due to rerouting...but thats going to be everywhere.

and why on earth you want to go to minot.

My family goes up there to visit my uncle every year. Have not seen him in 3yrs since my dad pasted so now that I got the opportunity im taking it. He has a summer home on a private lake with boats, wave runners, 3 wheeler & mini bikes so its a ton of fun.

 

This really is a bad deal. I think the media is BLOWING it up a little more than need be but my thoughts and concerns do go out to the families.

Yeah, I just realized something... my mom travels up to the TC about twice a week and frequents that bridge. I'm glad this wasn't one of the times she needed to go up there....

Does anyone remember the collapsed tunnel in Boston? I drive through all of those virtually every day. It was on a much smaller scale, but it's kind of sobering how much trust we put in the roads we drive and take for granted.
