Default Overall Audi Question (Electrical)

I presume it wouldn't really matter whether it was an A4, S4, or even an A6 since they use the same screens, but please read on.

So I've taken a look at 2001 Silver S4 with mid 90k miles. The LCD display that shows your gears, mpg, temperature, and so on is going out. The pixels are either black, going out, or shifted so the words aren't displayed correctly. Nothing too big 'cause I don't mind not seeing the screen. I was wondering what something like would go for in the money department to fix. The car has had electrical service done before according to the CarFax report. I haven't found anything on the net about fixing or getting a new display.

Thanks in advance. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Yeah I have a TT. My pixels are going out too. There is one service on ebay that's sometimes listed to fix your cluster for $250. I don't know anybody who has used them, so I'm not sure if they are good or not. I believe a new cluster, for me anyway, is around a grand.. The problem is, with no cluster(say it's out for service) the car won't run, so if you decide to ship it off somewhere, you might be immobile. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Good luck however, for the money I just choose leave my cluster like the burnt out ***** that it is. [&o]

the red lcd screens are a common problem. they are costly parts, about 500 bucks for the cluster. its a diy repair if you have a vag com to reprogram the mileage.

Ok thanks for the help guys. I'll have to search for a place to do it. If I pick up the car I'll probably first get a quote from the Audi dealership, which would most likely be the highest priced but it's a place to start.

Well just to let everyone know, I went by a place that services Audi's and only Audi at the dealership can do the cluster work. The mechanic said that Audi forbaid (don't remember his exact words) from anyone touching their clusters. Something about security and numbers. So I took a trip to the dealership, they quoted about $1,000 for the parts and installation, $700 for the unit, $300 for service. [:@]
