RE: Which Radar detector

Ive got the V1 in my S4. I drive from my house in saratoga, CA (south bay area) to UCSB about once a month. I average around 95 all the way down 101. My V1 saves me from half a dozen tickets every round trip. The range on the V1 is amazing, sometimes its too good because ill slow down and i wont get to the highway patrol on the side of the road for a mile or two. Also the directional arrows are great. Im not sure if the escort has them? Unless moneys an issue id say get the V1. also look online i got the hardwire kit for about 15 bucks. That way you dont have annoying cords hanging in your way. Good luck with whatever u decide.

v1 hands down.......no comparison. I have used both and own the x50 and it doesnt work nearly as good as the v1.

RE: Which Radar detector

also since im in Cali i have to deal with CHP and local smokey. So i need good Lidar, POP and instant on (trigger type radar). Is V1 still the best. I dont care about teh arrows since if it goes off im gonna slow down no matter what. But i like the bogey counter (i think the X50 has it too).

Anyone know the penalty for being caught with a laser jammer?

i also am looking at the K40. Its a laser jammer that i can buy locally for 299.99 and then have installed for another 100. The guy says he runs it on his car and no one has ever been cited in the state of CA for having one. There is some grey area on whether it is illegal to use or not. But that will be 400 and no radar protection. So then i need to buy a radar detector. They also have a K40 one that is also 299.99. So thats around 700 out the door. Is it really worth the money to be able to speed a lil? I mean a ticket will only cost 200 and ill goto traffic school so no points will go to my insurance. Plus if i get this that means the mods for my car need to stop for now (until i can actually get a job).

I've got the passport, it works great and has saved my ass.

RE: Which Radar detector

the only reason im leaning towards the passport is b/c of size and money. Supposedly the range si very equal and will be very close in response time. I dont care about the arrows b/c if it goes off i will slow down. Dont u ever worry about lidar?

RE: Which Radar detector

You can only do so much, when it goes off, i slow down. I'm only going as fast as other traffic anyway, most of the time.

RE: Which Radar detector

i do that too, but hwen im coming home at 12 or 1 am there isnt much traffic to hold me back. BUt sometimes i am on the freeway the ahead of alot of ppl and would like that for safety.

RE: Which Radar detector

I have really only heard my detector go nuts a couple of times, most of the pigs here still use radar, but if there is a speed trap with the highway patrol they will use lazer and other crap, it will go nuts. I usually just leave it on "Highway" mode, it's a little more sensative, but i'll just look at the scale and see what it detected and how strong the signal is. It will pick up some security systems, but i know where they are, and they don't register very high on the scale. When it does pick up a signal, it will be steady and climb until i see the cop. By then i'm slow!

RE: Which Radar detector

is there a bogey counter? And u find it even warns u with lidar?

pturbo 01-23-2006 11:46 PM

RE: Which Radar detector

Why do you need a bogey counter when it only takes one cop to give you a ticket? What difference does it make if there are 4 cops pointing radar at you? And yes, the Passport detects laser. It has a loud, funky, unmistakable scream when you are lazed.

RE: Which Radar detector

a bogey counter lets u know hwo many are there. Say a radar goes off and a cop passes u going teh other way. U speed up and then u get hit whit radar from someone waiting a mile down the road.

RE: Which Radar detector

I guess with an escort it would keep giving you an alert. The cop's signal passing the other way would go up in strength and then fade as he passed - then the detector would continue to pick up any other signals. The detector is just a tool. You are using your brain and the tool to avoid tickets. If the cop passes and you still have some warning lights/sounds, then there is another bogey. Things like "bogey counter" are marketing ploys that are just another way of saying "it detects radar". The V1 has arrows, but what you really need to know is that you need to slow down -not where the cop is at that very moment. If you are being painted it doesn't matter where the cop is. Just like it doesn't matter how many there are. You are being painted or you aren't.

You can wait to speed up again until there are no signals coming in. My 2 cents.

RE: Which Radar detector

oo tahst a good point about teh fading. My friend just bought a passport liek 2 days ago. Im waiting to see how it works and if its worth the money.
