Default Stupid parents (Rant)

My father thinks it would be smarter to park my AWD car that needs 2 new flex pipes that installed would cost under 300, and an EGR valve we found for 75 to be in near perfect condtion, and then new snow tires, he claims woudl cost 1000 because its a performance vehicle, balh blah blah. OVER my 1984 Mercedes Benz 190d rear wheel drive car that has the traction of slip and slide, that we just put 300 into to pass inspection this week. Maybe this is just my 18 year old brain going against his, but it makes pretty good sense to me that the AWD in a place where we get over 100+ inches of snow a season would be the right decision.

your father sounds a lot like mine. don't park it. you don't really need snow tires unless the ones your have now are bald. there's absolutely no reason to park the awd for a rwd in the winter. your pops wants you dead lol j/k j/k

those mercedes diesels can be a real pain in the *** in the winter... my cousin has one and last winter i had to rescue her 4x cuz she was stranded. I was also not the only one that helped her lol. If you get stuck in the mercedes make sure the glow plugs are all good/ new and that the battery is good and that you ALWAYS plug it in.

like the fresh prince said, "parents just don't understand."

when you get some snow. take him for a drive in the mercedes around some windy roads. then take him out in the audi. he may change his mind.

I agree with thepirate. Parents usually take some time to change their minds, and HATE to admit that their kid was right.

Anyways, Misters Pirate and Viking, what type of wheels do you have. I kind of like both.

To back up what Hiwords said, last year I ran on half-worn all season tires and the car was good. Snows are not necessary if you have quattro...but they're a good idea if you can swing the cost. I lucked out and got a set of four almost brand-new snows on OEM steelies for $250 and I almost can't wait to put them to the test.

parents are mostly like that. thankfully, my parents just turned there head when i did stuff to my eagle talon i had long ago in HS. quattro is definitely amazing in the winter, total difference compared to the benz...

Heheh, like when I bought my 300ZX all those years ago - my buddy had a 3000GT that was a fun car, but was the biggest turd as far as reliability - it was back in for repairs literally every three weeks. They knew about that, and my dad was worried that I would end up with the same situation. However, my dad didn't seem to grasp that as a young 20-something, I was not interested in a car like my mother's (97 Taurus). I remember waking up the morning after I brought the car home and hearing my dad in the kitchen bitching that "he didn't have to go buy a ******* jet fighter" lol. It was kind of funny because he was pissed off thinking I was in for a ton of repairs with the car like my friend had. However, when I went out of town a couple weeks later I left it at their house, and when I came back I found out he had taken the car out a few times and had a lot of fun with it
