Only it needs to be bigger, like a satellite or something that lets say focuses the sun to a single point of maybe a 400m Diameter beam that can be directed to any location on Earth and sweep a path of utter destruction and mass collateral damage, I mean the enemy can't hide if there is nothing to hide in.

They're not controlling the insect with the microphone. The microphone is used for surveillance and they control the insect with the chip that has been implanted in it during the pupae stage. If you've ever seen someone hooked up to electrodes their muscles can basically be controlled which is that they will do with the insects.
