so, im still in the search for the right avant to replace my late stage 3 a4 and im having troubles deciding on two imperticular. one is a 05 a4 usp avant that is going for $25k but im confident that i can talk them down to $23ish and the other is a 01 s4 avant going for $17,800 obo.

now i've always wanted an s4 avant and although it is the cheaper of the two, the maintenance cost for anything i'd want to do to it will definitely add up. where as if i get the a4 with the 1.8t motor i can add all of my stage 3 equipment from my old car to it and be perfectly happy.

so i guess im asking, would you guys spend the extra $6k for a newer lower mileage a4 usp avant with the possibility of being a stage 3 rather easily, or going for the older s4 avant?

 

I think logically you should go with the A4 1.8T Avant. Its 2005, it probably has less problems than the other car. Besides you already know the 1.8T motor front and back just from dealing with it before. I mean you made your last 1.8T stage 3. You know a thing or two, I vote 2005 A4 1.8T Avant.

 

I second that vote ... go for the newer of the two.

 

As much as I would personally LOVE to have a B5 S4, I have to agree - as a matter of practicality, it probably makes more sense (and will result in fewer headaches) if you get the B6 1.8T. Plus, the B6 Avant actually looks kind of good to me (I don't really like Avants very much, but every time I see a picture of a B6 Avant, I can kind of see why people like them). Plus, it's an Ultrasport!

So, I vote you get the '05 A4 1.8T USP Avant.

I'd go for the 1.8, but if the S4 is nogaro blueI'd take it. I love that color.

 

both are silver, and though im not to keen on silver i realize the rarity of both cars in as good of shape as these are.

2 - ability to swap your parts over to the new ride -

Well if you didn't have the Stage 3 parts already from your last car i would definately say the S4, but since you do, i would go with the 1.8T avant.
I would only recommend the S4 with people that make a good deal of money (60k+) that can cover the insurance cost, repair cost, and up-grade costs which are huge if you don't DIY your own turbos.

 

The parts from the B5 would make the difference for me. Besides, I'm starting to really like the USP models.

just talked to my insurance company and the s4 is going to be way to much to insure anyways, looks like i'll be trying to get the a4
