Why does manual cost more when the car is used?

Why does manual cost more when the car is used?
I don't get it, getting a manual transmission saves you about $1,200 brand new but all the manual cars being sold used almost always cost more than automatics. I noticed this with other cars such as the RSX as well. Whats the deal here?
If anything manual should cost less not only because its a cheaper transmission but it also makes you think that mabie the previous owner would be a little harder on the car then an average joe driving an auto.

i think its because there are less of them around.

Supply and demand though. If not alot of people are buying manuals in the first place then there shouldn't be as much demand for used manuals either, no?

that is correct, but u can assume that there would be a demand for them no matter what. I mean it will depend on the car, but the sportier sedans and sports cars will have more of a demand than a manual mini van. I kno i bought this particular car b/c it was 1 of 3 that meet all the requirments and was manual.

It IS true though... different demographic buying new cars, these days... even new RSX's. It's when they are on the used market a couple years later that young people can afford them -- and they want manuals!
Sorry if I am making generalizations... I am just assuming that this 'might' be a trend, although I understand there would be many exceptions to this 'rule'.
