Default Widescreen help

I just got component cables for my PS2 (picture is amazing now, cables were well worth the 15 bucks) but even when viewing a widescreen movie i still have letterboxes on the top and bottom. Why is this? Can i get ride of it?

Even when viewing widescreen movies... you still have letterboxes on top and bottom... are letter boxes those black bars?
If you don't have a widescreen TV... you'll have black bars on the top and bottom, if you're watching a widescreen movie... even if you do have a widescreen TV, sometimes the aspect ration isn't a perfect 16:9 and you still have black bars on top and bottom (I have a widescreen TV).

Anyways, what do cables have to do with the black bars?

Well if you didn't have widescreen, then the black bars would be bigger... with HDTV channels the aspect ratio is usually 16:9 so no black bars.

maybe you have to change the resolution on the TV itself? Just a thought

Yeah there should be different settings that stretch or zoom the image... My sony has like WIDE, and WIDE ZOOM, and NORMAL, and ZOOM ... a couple others too, I think

Yeah, you can zoom it in, but you will lose picture quality. As stated above, even with content that is wide screen format, viewing on a widescreen you will still have bars below due to different aspect ratios of different films. Some films are shot in 1.78:1, some 2.35:1, and some 2.85:1, the bigger the number. HD content is the closest you will get, usually, to filling your screen.
