So my dad is in my car when we go to bleed the brakes and I watch him start it, he forgets to push in the clutch(been a long time for him) and Im about to say somethin when the car starts up?? So I am like WTF why did it start without the clutch in? I dont know what that means, but Im sure it is not good....LOL

 

You don't need to push the clutch in, on the stick shift cars I had in the UK. Maybe it is a European model?

 

no its just not a requirement to start the car...

 

Damn... how do you do that? I always get the "ENGAGE THE CLUTCH, DUMMY" LCD screen.

 

the earlier B5s don't need to have the clutch in to be started....you can buy a "neutral safety switch" for about 300 bucks that prevents this from happening...my roommate almost ran into a fence starting my car once because it was in gear and he didn't depress the clutch...[:@]

na, i think it was a problem with a sticky throttle that got them into trouble

 

Really? My dad told me he used to have an old Audi 100... he started it up and it lurched forward into a fence.

 

yea, it's definitely a safety issue...but i think the problem that caused audi the real trouble was a sticky throttle with the old 5000s...i might be wrong though, i don't remember where i heard that from

 

...erm.. Just don't leave it in gear!
