buy RS4 OR RS6
thinking of buying a new rs4 but then i thought why not a low milege rs6 same engine but also twin turbo, could tweak it plus more comfy prolly blow away an rs4, your thoughts please. anyone have an rs6?
I looked into the 03 RS6 for a while. I've learned that the tranny can't take any hp increases, even 50hp. So if you plan on modding it, then be ready to spend some big money on a custom tranny that may or may not be that great.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great car. But modding it will be tricky and pricey.

Old news? One of the greatest cars Audi has produced in my book. The styling can't be beat. I would take one over any other Audi. The new RS6 that is coming out looks terrible. I'm just hoping it drops the price of the '03 a little bit.
Don't get me wrong the rs6 is an excellent car. I was just joking about it being old, circa 2003.
Now I don't have an rs6 but read about them as much as I can. While both engines are 4.2 L v-8 they aren't really the same engine. The v-8 in the rs4 is FSI, and the v-8 in the rs6 is turboed so the internals and much about them are different.
that being said the rs6 engine is great for upgrading to more power due to its turbos but its tranny was designed for stock an can't handle much more.
On the other hand the rs4 engine is a highly tuned N/A engine so there is very little you can do with it mod wise but it dosen't have 2 turbos to break on it.
Summary:
RS6 - bigger car with a tip-tronic
RS4 - smaller car with a manual
If your really considering buying 1 go down to the dealer and take a test drive!
check out www.rs6.com for a community that actually drive these(and the rs4) cars.

Blow away an RS4? In a straight line perhaps...is this what your really after? (doesn't the GTO come from Australia?) I think you need to better articualte your needs/wants in this case. I suspect that the RS4 will out track/corner the RS6 easily (and in good confort) and will be a much more face grinning rewarding sporty drive all around...not knocking the RS6 mind you...just facts...
BTW I've "blown away"...(60-130+) an RS6 in my modded S4 - and with relative ease (walked him real good and oh yes indeed he was trying...)...perhaps you should just buy a B5 S4 (cheap) and mod it...

Working around both the RS4 and the RS6 hands down the RS4 is soo much better. Although the RS6 is one of the best cars that Audi had put out since the release of the Quattro driving system...lol. The RS4 is alot more fun. RS6's are still awesome but like the second guy said... the trannies suck! I have seen countless RS6's come in for new trannies... The price for a RS6 with 30,XXX miles may seem reasonable, but still keep in mind it is an audi... shii breaks and parts for a sports car especialy by Audi are not cheap!
