Default I think I want an RS6

So I introduced myself in the introduction thread area, but no one seemed to chime in on information about 2003ish rs6's. So I guess I will ask here. I am looking into getting myself a high quality automobile when I come home from working overseas. My stable now isn't to bad but my Nissan is to much of a cream puff to drive a lot and my jeep is nothing.but issues and I think it may become a mostly off road vehicle. After some research and a bit of oogling over cars I have landed on wanting an rs6 biturbo v8 car. It offers advantages to me some of the other cars on my list just don't have. So I come here to ask you guys a few questions

First off reliability and cost of maintenance. Is this in line with the rarity of this car, or does Audi having a lot of 4.2s out there keep it down a bit?

Modability, can you upgrade this thing.with a few bolt ons without breaking the bank and actually gaining some HP?

That's all I have. I am a Ford diesel master, so I don't have any issues doing a lot of my own work. I have yet to have a car that has stumped me with doing repairs, maybe some take w hit longer then a tech who knows the car well, but I get it done.

So any input helps I want one bad but have yet to drive one.

hi and welcome! glad to see someone here shopping around for an RS6- i think there may only be a few members here that have one (and i dont think theyre active). so you might not get too much info, but let's see if i can help.

as far as reliability and maintenance cost- as far as i know the 4.2's (in general) are pretty expensive to maintain. slap on the 2 turbos and all the performance enhancing parts and you have a lot of potential for stuff to go wrong. mechanically i believe these engines are pretty sound, but when something does break, it's going to be pricey. and yes, audi does have a lot of 4.2's on the road, just not twin turbo 4.2's, so this won't help make it easier to maintain

for mods- there are some chips for these cars that should boost you to a comfortable level of power with out necessitating a ton of additional mods.

hope this helps-keep us updated on your car shopping

I will. I am at a stalemate between this car and a few others. The e55 is also on the list to. I think it comes with the same potential to be expensive to maintain
