Default Oil, Oi Vey

i've added a full quart of oil at 700 miles, and i just added yet another full quart at 2130 miles. dealer says it's normal for the RS4 to consume some oil during the first several thousand miles and it should start tapering off soon. i've read here and elsewhere that our cars "eat a little oil" but two quarts in 2100 miles?? any opinions on this?

-According to my dip stick and the on board computer everything is fine. Have not had to add any oil since my purchase back on June 5th. Oil pressure and engine temp are good-consistant too. I am @ 2750 miles FYI.
-I have the free 5000 mile service and at the rate I am driving it will take another 2 months to get there. After the 5000 mile service/inspection, I am going to continue bringing it in every 2500-3000 miles just for safety reasons and peace of mind, none of this 10k stuff.
-I noticed after the first month I put 1900 miles on it and then said wooh, since-I have put on 800 in the last month...much better. I love driving it but don't want to tack on too many miles (to soon) for multiple reasons.

-How high/often are you reving your baby? Thats a lot of oil but no big deal. Don't overfill! How many quarts do you keep in there when you consider it full?

the only reason i know to put in oil is the low oil indicator comes on. then i check the dipstick and it is indeed dry. so i start with about 1/8 quart at a time. start the car and let the oil run through the system. turn the car off. check the dipstick. repeat as necessary.

it's been warm here in socal this summer but the engine oil temp reads about 220 degrees at operating temp which i understand is pretty normal. i properly followed the break in up till 1500 miles as it says on the owners manual and now i'll drive it quickly but i never abuse it.

now that i think about it, the first fillup of oil i suspect was because of the bad PDI check by the dealer before i took delivery. but the second fillup is a full quart after only 1430 miles.

219-220 is the normal temp. It has been 95-103 ever since I got my RS w/ 100% humidity and my oil level is fine. Your actual oil light came on, more than once? Huh, thats strange. Either I have incredible luck or your car has a small problem...hope I am wrong. Wait and see how it does but you shouldn't have to fill it up this much. YA ya I know, everyone is gonna post how much oil the rs4 eats along with how high the engine revs bla bla bla-shouldn't have to do it-PERIOD! Keep us posted.

added another 1 quart at 5015 miles. that brings the grand total to about 3 quarts in 5000 miles. i'm convinced the car only really needs 5 quarts of oil and the rest is simply "reserve"

the car goes in wednesday for the free 5000 mile oil change so we'll see how things pan out from there. i've put 5000 miles in only 50 days so it seems like i'm filling up frequently but you put it into mileage perspective and i suppose it's not that bad. the amount of driving i'm doing should start tapering off anyways.... maybe...

I think the part about oil consumption was on pg286 in the owner's manual. adding .5qt /600m is normal(and higher during break-in) and a part that suggested a need to check dipstick at every other fillup comes to mind...

Trev,
I just ordered mine about a month ago. Purchased the Audicare program for $550. Was told about the oil changes at every 5 - 10 thousand interval. I agree it's bull. I plan to to do the same after the first 5 thousand miles - bring it in every 3 thousand for an oil change.

Forget what the manual says, change your oil at 600 miles, 2500 miles and 5K miles and then every 3K miles thereafter. The RS4 engine is extremely brutal on oil. For the record I took delivery of my RS4 back in July, and now have 11K miles on her, and have analyzed and studied the oil in this engine since day one.
