Default RS6 vs. RS4?

My sincere apologies if this is a repeat post, and I did a search but found nothing and figured this was probably a fun subject anyhow; so...

Thru a series of lengthy, intricate and at times painful negotiations with my wife, I have attained clearance from the tower to purchase my dream car - this won't happen til Spring of '08 but that was one of my concessions. Anyhow - has anyone had the opportunity to really do a solid comparison between an RS6 and an RS4?? I haven't driven either but from the endless amount of reading I've done on both, it sounds as though the 6 can't touch the 4 on handling and overall performance even though it matches or beats it in straight line speed. ...But I'm looking for more; how do they differ in "feel"? E.g., the RS4 supposedly does not understeer as severe as most AWD cars do. Any info. given is greatly appreciated.

BTW - I sold my '02 A4 3.0L V6 w/PES G3 to save money driving a Toyota Corolla. ...Pity me.

well, the RS4 is a better idea as a whole. But if you are still cosidering an RS6, to me it would come down to one car being naturally aspirated and one being turbo charged, twice at that. To me that means reliability issues down the road... just look inside the B5 S4 forum and read about twin turbo cars and their reliability. It has nothing to do with Audi, just Turbo charged cars period...they require a special type of owner and when you buy an used B6 RS6 (by now getting long oin the tooth in general)....well chances are the owner might have not been good to it, God knows I would wring that puppy every chance I got.

Thanks, Drsus.... I'm surprised I hadn't thought of that yet but that's all I need to hear. I had problems with my s'charged A4 and the little bit of extra money I'd invest on the RS4 vs. a used RS6 would be worth not reliving that experience.

Does anyone know if Audi's plans are to only produce the RS4 for 2007? I assume that's what will happen given the history of RS cars and the complete 4-line redesign slated for 2008?

If you are going to get a new RS4 better hurry....By spring '08, I'm not to sure they will still be making them anymore. I give the RS4 another year at best--being in production.
I would also take an NA car over Turbo. The power is always there and less to worry about. However, the new RS6 is going to be an awesome car. I own an RS4 and I can't complain. It is already fast enough in the low & top end but if I want a little more boost...I'll add a better exhaust and Air filter but that is it!

Well the RS6 is the older car.
Tiptronic transmission.
Twin turboed V8 = modded beast of a powerplant
more maint than a N/A car

The RS4
Newer
Manual tranny
more "sporty" feel

They are both great cars. If you really want to break the bank by spring 08 they should have some more info on the B7 RS6 [sm=smiley34.gif]

You are a wise man, Trev. B/c of aforementioned problems I had adding an after-market supercharger, my new philosophy is: "If you want a fast car, buy a fast car." Lots of people have successfully tuned; but after the experience I had, I'd rather just get what I want out of the box. - If I can't put a deposit down in late '07, I'm sure there will be a low-mileage used RS4 available.
