I will post a thread to follow up on this topic later, but there is a little piece of advice I have for all current/future RS4 owners. This is also the reason why I have not posted any videos yet. All I can say is there advantages to being one of the first to get theirs and there are disadvantages...however it has a good ending. I know it sounds vaugue... but trust me its valuble info.
Also, I thought "offroad911" was getting his on the 12th of June, has anyone heard from him? I Will post the thread later tonight around 11ish or in the morning.

Ok here it is guys, sorry for the delay. All last week I can't express how awesome the RS4 was to drive, sit in, look at, listen too and talk about. In the midst of all of those good things there was one bad thing. After the 4th day, when I went into my garage while the RS was outside, I noticed something that shouldn't have been there....oil on the ground! I tried calming myself by saying "well maybe some idiot overfilled it or something"? After I looked underneath the car, I realized it was more than that. So I did the smart thing and notified my dealer where they took action immediatley.
Before I go on, I want to say this really is the one of the best/if not The best dealership in the US (I have lived on the East coast, West coast and all points in b/t FYI)! I sat and chatted with the salesman who sold me the car acting as if nothing was wrong, both awaiting the outcome. The RS tech came over to talk to us and said "well, I have got bad news". At this point, I'm flippin out on the inside. Granted its not a huge issue and before anything bad would have happend to the car, I would have been notified by the onboard computer. The problem: the main oil line on the car was over torqued and stripped by the manufacturer and that was what was causing the leak! I anticipated it would take a week to get the parts (new hose) from Germany and have it installed. That was hardly the case. I brought it in Monday afternoon, parts ordered Tuesday, arrived/installed Wednesday. Car works great now just as it did when I brought it in.
I am telling all RS4 owners this for two reason's: first, when your dealer "PDI's" it, have them take 5 min to check and make sure that "both ends of the main oil line's threading isn't stripped (over torqued) and securly fastened. Second, unless you are as detailed as I am with cars (which I am sure most of you are) you won't notice anything is wrong until you are notified by the computer. They and I both knew it wasn't a huge deal, however, the hardest part was giving it up for two days after I just got it a week ago!
Just wanted to share that with you all. Again...JUST MY lUCK. I'll bet no one else has this problem (hope not) but, o'well, I'd rather get the initial first (hopefully only) problem out of the way in the beginning rather than on a road trip out west this summer.

PS-Have the techs make a log or even show you the milage before the PDI inspection, otherwise they will easily cruise around for 30 miles "testing your new baby"...testing, yeah right. I made sure I did, but have heard from others who didn't that--that was the case. If you were a tech and had the chance...wouldn't you? YES!

Its a big deal, but I'd say the chances of it being an issue on other cars is pretty small. I think we were expecting you to have some issue with the actual build of the car... you know, something we will all notice and hate. Nonetheless, that sucks man. I'm sorry you had to be parted from your baby so soon!

well, in addition to the EPC light, guess i'm going to have to take mine in to the dealer to see if i have this issue too. i can't find a leak or any sign of a leak at home or at work, but i was 3/4 quart low on oil. the dash indicator came on saying i was at 'minimum' oil.

i know some cars might 'eat' some oil (my STI boxer engine would swallow about 1/2 quart every 4000 miles) but 3/4 quart in 400 miles?? unless it was kraut and brat buffet day and food coma set in with the afternoon shift at the ol' GmbH and they didn't fill it enough...

 

You shouldn't have to have the oil checked for another 4600 miles...something is wrong or something was done wrong? Audi says "b/c they use synthetic oil, you only have to come in every 10,000 miles or once a year". As great as that sounds to my bank account, I am atleast insisting on taking her in every 5k.
I used synthetic on my most recent car for years and still brought it in every 3k. Wasn't so much concerned about the oil level as I was about the oil filter and other hard to reach fluids. If you don't have any oil leaking in your garage or on any pavement, then you are probably OK. Still have them check it.
If it is the same problem I had, they can find it in about 3 min. All they have to do is take off the under carriage cover in the front and there it is-staring them in the face. Audi had to order a new line from Germany (reason for the problem is it was over torqued) and they thought it would take over a week to get but, they ordered it on a Monday and I was back in my ride by lunchtime on Wed. Service at my dealer is (as I have said before) phenominal. Hope it is just as simple as topping off. Let me know? You should get 4 yrs free service for all of the crap you are having to go through Tsunami.

 

No, its VERY common for RS4s to eat oil as did the S4, but even worse. Go on AW forums and you'll see everyone talking about it.

Unless you see oil leaking on the ground, I would not take it in, I'd simply top it off with more oil (make sure its the right kind).

 

I figured tsunami's RS would eat oil just like yours and mine but...he has only had it for less than a week and its under 500 miles. You would think at PDI/inspection Audi would have topped off or notice something as common as checking the oil level on a brand new super car. It is as simple as checking the dip stick for tsunami. Considering his other problems, I would have them do it for free instead of having to spend the money/time on synthetic and doing it himself.

fyi...my '05 S4 ate the oil for the first 6000 miles, now it's fine. (i just kept oil in my trunk for when i had to fill 'er up)
