I just purchased an Audi RS5 and should have it within 2 weeks. I have a question though...

As the stats show, it pushes 450HP stock, but only 317 lbs of torque? The S5 pushes more torque... It confuses me. I'm assuming it is faster than an S5 0-60 and quarter mile, is that correct? Can somebody please school me on this, and what is an estimated 0-60 and quarter for both, RS5 and S5? Please school me.

Oh, 2013 RS5 with 25k miles (incase that matters)

 

There is a long and somewhat complicated correlation between TQ and HP, some of which I'm still confused about myself. While I don't have the exact figures for both models right in front of me, I find it hard to believe the RS5 has less TQ than the S5, but I can explain fairly simply why it has more HP. It has a higher redline. HP is nothing but a measurement of TQ based on speed, that is, the speed of the rotation of the engine. Usually, torque builds early and wanes off at higher RPMs while HP continues to climb. This is due to the mathematical equation for HP (TQ times RPM divided by 5200ish). High revving engines tend to have less torque but monster HP due to the high redline. Tuners (professional, not ricers) try to move the torque line to the right, that is, higher in the RPM band, because more torque at higher RPMs means a significant increase in HP. The reason why smaller engines with big turbos are not good daily drivers is because there is almost no torque (what gets you moving) until the engine is up in the RPMs, at which point, massive boost increases equate to huge torque gains, which results in high RPMs. Great for drag racing, not so good for driving in traffic.

For an example of this, check out APR's stage 3 TT-RS set up. It bumps the HP from 360 stock to over 600, but if you look at the torque range, it actually makes less torque under 3K RPM, until the turbo has time to really spool, and then it's like a rocket.

Final note: the newer 5.0 Mustang's with the 400ish HP accomplish this number the same way. Their TQ figures are relatively low, but it redline at 8K RPM. (the RS5 redlines at 8,250 though:P)

This RS will not disappoint! I have 2013 RS5 and here are my Bone Stock Stats @ just over 1000 miles on the OD using launch control. I ran a 12.3 Qtr Mile and 0-60MPH 4.0 sec confirmed with VBOX on 3 runs and the outside temp was 65F.
