Default 2000 audi s4 v 2002 audi s4

Ok so i did some research on both these car models and some people say the 2000 is less reliable and the 2001+ have esp and so on. I'm shopping around for an S4 and i found one for about 10000 for a 2000 silver with black leather with 67K miles which was a retirement car. This car was babied and garaged, and is selling it because he cannot use it anymore. It also has damage done to the rear bumper but only small and 700 to fix. As for 2002 i don't know anything about the owner( cause i have not seen it yet) but he is asking for 12000 for a 2002 S4 with 81K miles, with a new clutch and brakes, along with BBS rims (I'd rather have stock but he doesn't have them) and its black with white leather(i'd rather have black). Are the changes/(newcltuch and brakes) for the 2002 good enough to not consider the 2000? I've been getting mixed reveiws, some people saying the year doesn't matter and some saying that it really does. Any help would be greatful

2002 will have the ESP, the rest is bla bla. I say go with the 2000 if you can get records on when that clutch was put in, and what kind of clutch was installed (probably factory) Also if you are going to chip it, and it is the factory clutch, it wont last very long. So if you go with the 2000 and are not going to chip it right away i think that is a better deal. Also both cars will need the timing svs done soon which is going to be a swift kick in the wallet, so be ready for that. Good luck and may the car gods be with you!

Thumbs down

Thanks, i hope they are with me as well. As for the service, i know i will need to throw down some money in the future but i can go at least one with without having to worry with either car. I don't think i will chip it right away if at all. I would need to pay the car off first and finish school too.

Audi also increased the size of the oil inlets in 2001.5 and later making these models less prone to turbo failure (driver dependent)

How hard/costly would it be to change the oil inlets? Should i worry about the Fronts being changed from aluminum to steel? This is a big purchase for me so i don't want to make mistakes.

I haven't actually removed mine, but I'm pretty sure the fittings that fasten the lines to the turbos are basically impossible to get to without removing the engine. I have worked up in there doing DPs and EGTs and I can say there is almost no room to work. I wouldn't plan on changing the lines, I would however, budget a few emergency thousand clams in case you need to swap out your turbos.

and at that time swap out everything. The down side to owning a $10,000 is your still paying $40,000 repair bills. ahhh the abuse we put our selves threw for those shiny 4 rings.

^^^ just paid $370 for coilpacks that 'might' fix some misfire codes... ugh. but not many cars have V6 twin turbos, it's a pay off in my opinion
