Default 2000 s4 axles

I have a 2000 s4 that is has just started to make some rattling noises when I go around corners. I figure it's the cv joints going bad. Makes the noise going right or left. Car has 135000 mi. on it and was going to replace the entire axle. How hard is this and does anyone have any instructions on how to do it to save me some time. thanks

Here are some good resources for repairs. I'm actually waiting on the parts to do the axle replacement on my 2002 S4 hoepfully this weekend.

check your upper control arms.. they go bad a lot.. cv axle clicking is going to make a constant click, and oscillate in frequency according to how fast you are going....

haha i actually just got off the phone with my mech to see if he'll replace both my axles for the same reason but under my warranty. if not ill just do it myself but i really dont want to. i replaced my driver side cv joint last winter and it was raining and cold and miserable and it ruined the experience for me and i half assed putting the boot on so now i have the same problem again so now im seein if my warranty will cover it. i bought my parts from rmeuropean.com. they seemed to be the least expensive

I had my front axles replaced last winter. Tried to do it myself since i help out at a car lot/shop but ended up having the mechanic that works with me doing most of it. The cheapest way to get axles I think is to have them rebuilt. Both of mine cost around $200 (for both, not for each) and then the mechanic charged me about $100.
