Default 2000 S4: Can not get above 4000 rpm. HELP!

Hi I have recently bought my 2000 S4 Tiptronic. Everything was fine till one day I hit the gas. And the rpm did not go over 4000 rpm. I rolled my window down to hear the engine better. It sounds like as if the turbo's are leaking exhaust gas. I tried couple more times to see what's going on. Every time I hit the gas the car stops the rpm at 4000 rpm. I took it to two mechanic shop. They had no idea what was going on. Then I decided to take the car to the audi dealer. They gave me an appointment for 2 weeks later. I just want to know if anyone had the same problem before?

68000k
Some brand of blow off's installed by the previous owner.
The dealer i bought the car from told me that the car has been well maintained. (Though i don't believe him. He told me that the car was stock.)

Any help would be appreciated.

MIght be the coils, usually when a car doesnt go above a certain rpm it has an ignition problem and misfire. Def. look into the coils because your computer may be sensing severe misfire and its not allowing your motor to rev above a certain rpm for fear of destruction. If its not that vag com and put the codes on the page and someone can tell you what the problem is.

my car had same problem, its was the exhaust gas temp sensors that had failed, it just opened the waste gate when i hit 4k rpm and kept it open.

Yes it does have forge blow off valves. Why they are bad for the car?

Do any of thea/m ecuguys have a valetfile that puts a cap on RPMs?
If he's new to the car and the dealer has no idea what's in it, maybe he was unfortunate enough to inadvertently put it in that mode???

I would definitely scrap the blow off valves. S4s have a re-circulating system for bleeding off boost when the throttle is closed. You should replace the BOVs with diverter valves to re-circulate the excess boost back into the system.

I'm surprised you haven't thrown a CEL yet.
