Default 2004 audi s4

im interested in the audi s4 (2004 model)

this looks like it could be a good car. looks great and has a v8.

but ive seen 2 seperate people complain about the clutch 'going' after very few miles... im wondering is this a known problem with these cars? were the clutches bad in these models? do you think they are safe to buy.. especially since they are old now. does anyone have any experience with these cars, or older audi's with bad clutches?

any input would be great cheers.

B6 model A4s=2002-2005
B6 model S4s=2004-2005

The car you have pictured there is a B6 S4.

I havent heard of a common issue with our clutches. I have about 44k on the stock clutch and it still engages like a champ! Just had it checked also because I had a leak in the tranny on a connecting shaft when at first I thought something was wrong with the clutch. Take it for an inspection and have them take a look at the clutch to see if theres any serious wear. Someone can destroy a clutch in a matter of hours if they try hard enough, especially in these cars with a ton of torque... So it all comes down to how the previous owner drove it on a day-to-day basis. My clutch going out is one of the last things on my mind.

cheers!

your red s4, did it come with the red strips down the side? )if you look the yellow car has grey strips, not body colored) did you spray them of something?

also what about the back, there is a big grey plastic looking bit at the bottom of the bumper.. looks horrid.

Some came with the stripes down the side and some didn't. It was an option.

The bottom door flares where a matte black color for the euro spec. The owner of the yellow B6 could have bought the euro part and swapped them out. As for the back are you talking about at the very bottom of the trunk on top of the bumper? Mine is a polished silver, similar to the side mirrors.

I think he's talking about the very bottom of the bumper where the exhaust tips come out. It never really bothered me, I guess you could paint it but I think that would look horrible, give it some time maybe it'll grow on you. I love my S4 even though the mileage sucks. This is my first manual that I've owned but my friends dad who's had plenty of experience with cars said that the clutch felt like it was just broken in when I bought it with 39,000 miles on it. I have about 44 thousand now and no signs of slipping and it doesn't engage too late either.
