I was intersedted in buying a s4.I was wondering which engine was better, the 4.2L or the 2.7T. and which has the better after market upgrades.

first off, the 2003 is the first year for the b6, so it still has the 4.2

 

search, bro this has been talked about to death on here ............ ugh

 

it's the greatest motor of all time in imagination land, because there was no s4 in 03

 

haha yup^^. the 2.7t was used in 98-02. 98 and 99 only in europe.
the 2.7t is by far (as of now) the better engine for modification by far!

 

I'm still relatively new so I'll take the time to respond From what I've gathered:

Why to get a B6/B7:
1. V8 growl - sounds awesome with pipes
2. newer body styling
3. newer interior
4. reliability

Why to get a B5:
1. gas mileage
2. ability to modify (B7 is limited to exhaust, intake and chip, which get you 40-50hp only; B5's possibilities are 10x that of B7 and the end result is a much faster car)
