Exclamation 2006 S4 Cabriolet Convertible Problems

Aloha,
Having some issues with my S4 Cabriolet.
First of all I am located on the Big Island of Hawaii where there is no Audi dealership. With that being said, I took in my car to European Auto Specialist where they don't have the proper diagnostic machine to figure out how to fix the top. They did replace the solenoid and it did work for a short time but now they said I have to ship it to Oahu to the dealer there to get it fixed.

So here is the problem:
I purchased the car 1 year ago and the convertible top was working fine, but it was located outside. Outside? Yes it does matter, on cold days and after I kept the car inside the top did not work. I figured it out that when I left it outside in the sun, the top worked perfectly.
That was until 3 months ago when it does not work at all. I press the open button the mechanical latch opens but the rest of the unit does not work, just like when its cold.
I checked the wiring, the fuses, and even manually opened it and closed it if it was a steep hill reset issue. I have checked online, youtube, and looked all over this website but still no trouble shooting help.
Please help me with my issue, as I do not have the funds to ship it to another island to get it fixed.

Mahalo,

Darren

Hey Darren,

I've got the same car and sounds like the same problem. I just bought the car used with about 70k on it. During my check drives and for the first two weeks the top worked fine. Then one day I tried to open it using the key and it hasn't opened fully since. I've had a repair shop check for error codes but they couldn't find any. I'm taking it in tomorrow to let them go over it more thoroughly. I'll keep you posted.

I saw the Youtube video and tried the manual open/close reset thing, but that didn't solve the problem.

(Hi-jack since all attempts to post on my won here have failed
Hi, , I saw you post ona guys A4 top problems, I thought I'd run by you what just happened to me today...(and I dont buy that its the pump). Please let me know if you think you know whats happening...
* Sunny day in Miami, decided to drive top down, I do, all day long. Top goes up/down 3-4 times w/o a problem.
* Time to go home, want to drive back top down. (This is where it gets weird) I for some stupid reason push the "Windows ALL down switch" (the Fat/wide one) while pulling the top down switch...everything stops! Top is still up (closed) windows go to the normal "half open position" in prep for the Top coming down, A/C goes off as usual, but now I'm getting the flashing conv. top icon (as in, it's in motion, but its not) latches stay closed, trunk lid stays closed, and now in the master caution panel of the dash, I have the huge/flashing "Soft top not secure" warning with annoying beeeeeeeeep when I drive forward.
* I have had: the codes read (none) Checked fuses (all are fine)I have disconnected the Battery (didnt help) and, the same two warnings are still there, A/C now does not work at any setting/any temperature, and...the top doesnt work.

I have no earthly idea where the ROof motor is to check connections. I spent 20 mins in the trunk today looking for it, no joy.

Any ideas whats going on? I suspect I jammed/blew something when I did the simultaneous switch maneuver....any ideas? I'd love to have this resolved pronto w/o having to throw thousands of dollars at an Audi service manager to have it looked at. Thanks! Direct replies appreciated! desertsnake1991@yahoo.com

I have an 2005 S4 Cab and had the flashing top light once (top still worked just would flash the light at times). I performed a manual open and close cycle with the ignition off. This cleared that and haven't seen it again. I think it had to do with performing a complete open and close cycle. Hope this helps.

TA DA! I fixed mine! Yowza! I took it to German Auto care on Dixie in Miami, guy had a VAG-COM knock off....ran the roof codes, it came up with code "249" Top frame motor inop/implausible signal". He suggested a place called "the Buggy Doctor" (VW Used Auto Parts - BuggyDoctor.com) these guys have a HUGE inventory of used Audi parts. Anyway, I had em pull the top motor , this is the one that drives the two opposing locking "claws" that lock the top into the windshield frame. 10 screws, two ball joints popped out, 8 allen head bolts, it was out. I had em test the new one, applied 12 volts, it moved, 30 minutes later? Installed, and it WORKED! Results: Audi wanted 615$ USD for this motor, and 2 hours to diagnose it at 135$ an hour. My costs? NO cost diagnostic (Thanks Juan@german Auto Care) used Top frame motor with 30 day warranty for 150$, and 45 minutes to install and test...voila! Fixed! One thing I found out...this thing is typically german, and WAY over-engineered. When one sensor is bad? game over...if they cant all communicate, no dice on your top working. New obstacle? When the top went inop, the A/C quit working! Thats my new problem for another day....aggravated Audi driver today, but I saved a bundle!
