2010 S4 Buying Questions
So I'm getting really close to pushing the switch and saying goodbye to my old B5 A4 (2001) that I've been driving for the last 10 years. I test drove a few S4's today and was loving them (who wouldn't). The one I'm leaning toward has the rear differential option, but not the audi drive select package. I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on this. Is it worth the xtra $4k to add the drive select package? From my understanding adding that gives you suspension adjustments and drive assist. Also curious if folks are paying the MSRP or if there's a chance to talk these guys down. The dealer said that there aren't many out there so they charge MSRP...don't know if that's truth or just dealer talk. I'd love any feedback you guys could give. Would like to make an informed decision since I'll most likely buy the car and keep it for a while.
Hello - I purchased my 2010 S4 in November. That is completely dealer talk. I was able to get my S4 for $350 above invoice and was very happy with that. I wasn't in a rush and was in and out of the dealership for about 6 weeks. They didn't have the S4 I was looking for on the lot and had to trade for it.
Back to the $350 above invoice thing, I used AAA (broker) as leverage in getting the price down. AAA wanted me to go to another state to purchase the car (for $300 above invoice) but had not intention of doing that.
Regarding the read diff option. This option is very nice if you are going to drive you car very hard. One thing you'll notice with this option is that the car will feel more like a rear wheel drive car than all wheel (which is a good thing) when you are aggresive in the corners (reduce understeer). I'm one of these agressive idiots but my S4 does not have this option and I'm not regretting it at all. If you don't plan on squealing the wheels around corners, save your 4K or put it to other options.
I absolutely love the car. I almost go a Merc but I'm stubborn with regard to only having manual cars so my options were limited (wasn't planning on getting a bimmer).
Have fun with your purchase.

Thanks for the reply Backne. That's very helpful info. Only question I had is how did you actually figure out what the dealer invoice was. I think edmunds has invoice prices, but they're just general and not necessarily specific to the models with various options and such.
