I agree 100% with HP Addict. The 350 isn't even in the same catergory with the s4. It's rear drive, 2-seats and 2-door, and both have different overall vehicle design objectives from the manufacturer. The M3 is a little closer to the s4 design but still not quite the same idea, although the 2 are often comared as thoughthey are direct competitors. It all depends on which catergories you want to compare them in. They all have their strengths and weaknesses in some areas. It all depends what your looking for.
My chipped b5 WASTES 350's. I think my S4 and a b6 are probably pretty similar speed wise...
I had a friend who got a 350Z for a night (prom night too haha), WAY slower than my other friends 300ZX and he stood no chance against my b5.
The defining characteristic of the m3 isnt speed, although theres no lack of it... The m3 is a dirvers car, irs about precision and driving on the absolute edge of insanity. Great car though, just not as well rounded as the s4. And as far as e36 vs B6 the interior of the m3 will feel like a 1990 camry.... Not to mention lower miles on a b6
As far as upgrades this is what i would do: Chip (probably VAST if i could manage it), Full miltek system - downpipes + exhaust, intake, JHM short shifter, lower/stiffer suspension, upgrade the brakes, lighter wheels + agressive tires. In that order. Yeah its expensive, and gains arent as big on the B6 as the B5 because its n/a but there will be a noticable difference, and you dont have to do it all at once. Pick and choose...
