Default another method of removing turbo's

why dont i hear more people replacing or rebuilding they're turbo's when doing headgaskets or replacing heads? Its the perfect time to take out the turbo's and doesnt require dropping the motor. Is this not common knowlege?

being an interferience motor... i would have thought this was done alot more. Shoot anyone doing headgaskets has the perfect opportunity to rebuild or replace the turbo's (without dropping the motor) but i just dont see many doing it.

you got any pics to prove it? I guess it makes sense, but i don't think its possible, otherwise they would just remove the heads to change turbos instead of pulling the entire thing. couple bolts vs. engine pull.

If you think about it...everything you need for removal is right there. toughest part is removing the heat shields. I ended up cutting them. If your replacing the headgasket its very easy....well it was tough, but removing/dropping the motor is a pain also. My brothers car is done, so i think ill be installing k04's on my s4 soon. I'll take detailed pictures then.

Note:
1)Its roughly $110 pc for a head kit. (gasket, rings...and so on.)
2)Head bolts should be replaced anytime the head comes off....more $
3)The heads are off so the timing belt should be replaced.
4)your there so why not replace tensioners, pullys, water pump....

the reason i asked for pictures is because this is the first time anyone has mentioned it to my knowledge. Not calling you a liar, just saying that if its that easy, why didnt someone figure this out in the 9+ years the car has been around.

anyways would love to see some pictures of just how you guys pulled this off. what kind of time did it take you?
