Default Any tech in the HOUSE? question about TSB #0402

I was reading the TSB section of the forums and came across this one

https://www.audiforums.com/recalls-a...d_0402/TSB.htm

Is the fix just a replacement of the valve cover gasket.I have no visible leaks on my car, but in the last 3 weeksI have had to add about 1/4 qt ofengine oil. I don't know if this isjust regular engine burnoff, oraslow leak or something worse. some help with DX would be appreciated.

If your VCG is leaking, it will smell from the oil hitting the turbo, or you would have a spot on the floor.
Common leaks are.....
VCG
cam adjuster seals
cam seals
lower & upper oil pan
sandwich plate

If you are loosing oil, with no visable leaks, I would remove both lower IC pipes & see if it's in there, chances are it's some blow bye, or maybe a failing turbo.

Thanks skS4 and Dave for the help, now I have a few follow up questions. Concerning the changing of the VCG.

How hard is it on a scale of 1 to 10 to change the VCG?
Does it require a complete engine pull?

If I were to take it in to someone else to be changed what kind of costs should I be looking to expect?
(I don't have my bently repair manual or my operator's manual yet, they have been ordered and I am waiting for them to arrive.)

thanks for the advice guys.

It's like a 4-8hr job depending on your skills. More time if you have a tip. You don't need to pull the motor, just most of the stuff over the valve covers. It's a pretty straight forward job.
