Aux Water Pump Leak
Hey guys, I have the infamous aux water pump leak. I lose about a cup of fluid every 1,000 miles. I was wondering where the leaktypically occurs. Does the pump itself have a crack or is it usually a bad hose. I can see the crusty coolant on the front if I look under the intake manifold and I can smell antifreeze burning when I shut the car off.
From what iv read i believe it is the seals inside the AUX pump that go. The main reasons being the location (extremely high heat) and the fact that it dosnt run very frequently on a stock car. If it is a leak inside the pump your going to end up replacing it. When you do you might think about switching to a lower temp coolant sensor which will run in more often.

I already have the low temp sensor that runs the unit for 10 minutes after shutdown and any time the temp reaches 94 Celcius (I think). Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll replace it.
well i have a 98 a4v6 and my car did the same thing. i dont know how much i spent on antifreeze for my car. it ended up being a cracked waterpump. i had to replace my water pump, timing belt, serpentine belt , and thermostat meter at a local volkswagen dealer for 1300
Good info, I just ordered the pump, both hoses, high performance gaskets, and iridium plugs from ECS Tuning. Looks like a fun Saturday coming up. Do you guys need a DIY with pictures? I haven't been able to find one?
