I have An '01 S4 and an '00 A6 2.7T both 6sp. I love my S. The 6 tends to treat me a little better on long trips.
My S on the otherhand is a lot faster.

I'm not necessairly comparing apples to apples here, but I had a 2.7T A6 as a loaner car while my B6 S4Avant was in getting the seat heaters and I really did not like it. I felt really big an cushy. Plus A6 2.7T with tiptronic = slow (relavive to S4 4.2L 6M). I spent most of the time usign the simulated manual thing to get it to shift properly. I think that the engine demands a manual, how would you B5 owners rate the tip vs manual in your cars?

Glad to see you're leaning towards the S4.

One thing better about the A6 vs my S4, the fuel economy was a lot better! lol.

 

My brother has the a6 2.7t 6 mt. Now he does have a good bit of mods done to it ,but the car is fast. Not as fast as the S since its lighter and handles a little better IMO. Its also alittle bigger and drives more like a luxury car. But a nice car. Can`t gowrong with both cars.
