Ok so I am posting this is the A4 forum too.

I currently own a 2000 B5 A4 and am thinking about buying a new Audi.

The problem is I can't decide. B5 S4 or B6 A4.

I definitely want to upgrade on performance and the S4 is the instant winner.

but everything considered what would be the "best" choice.

 

if you are concerned about upkeep and warranty, the newer car always wins.

 

Thats the upside of the B6, but the extra HP straight off is SOOO tempting

 

im not a big fan of the b6's..go with the b5! plus all that potential with the b5.. do it!

It all depends what you want out of it (and what you are willing to put into it). Older S4 will be more raw and engaging - while the A4 will be more civilized and nice...but the S4 will end up costing you $ in the long run in higher maitenence and potential upgrade fever. Both are very nice in their own ways. I personally (if it were me making the decision for myself) would go for the S4 because it excites me while the A4 would be a great car and fun and reletively engaging..well...its just not the same (firebreathing beast...)
