Is the B6 S4 the car for me?

As for maintaining it... i dont think there is any huge issues as the B5 chassis had with the turbos but its still foreign and its awlways more expensive.

Yes you could replace the turbos with k04's right off the bat and eliminate future turbo problems. However for that $3500 you will be stage 3- so you still wont have full k04 power. There are also some sensors in the b5 that sometimes get flakey and need to be replaced, timing belt is required and pricey, some suspension components may need to be replaced as the car pushes 100k, so turbos arent the ONLY maintenance area, but they are by far the most expensive. Also the problems the car has will be directly connected to how it is driven and treated.
I loved my B5 Saloon.I think I love my B6 Cab. more. The power, the sound and the beefy look.
My problem with the B5in the snow was ground clearence. I haven't driven the Cab in snow b/c of my tires,so I don't know how good it is in really bad weather. I don't like the FWD bias though.

Are the B5's main problems just the turbo's? It seems like I could buy a B5 and immediately upgrade to the K04 turbos(around $3,500 from what I've seen on the board) for less than buying a B6. Would that solve/prevent most of the problems with the B5? Or is it ancillary problems that are caused by the turbos so just replacing the turbos won't be enough?

As you said, many of the guys here have B5s. You should probably head over to AudiWorld (audiworld.com) to get some more opinions about the B6. Many people will tell you that it's *generally* very solid, and better built than the B5 is, but I (and many others) don't know the --specific-- intervals for maintenance and particular problems with the 4.2 in the B6s. Hopefully one of the techs on here could give you some more specific info.
