BMW vs. Audi
So I'm debating on a BMW 328is or a B5 S4. What are your thoughts as to which way i should go. I've heard/read about good and bad things about both cars, but still cant decide. thoughts? opinions?...explain :-)
The s4 is a lot faster and has AWD. But the BMW is less problematic. Audi's seem to have a lot of random things break. Basically i'm looking for a quick daily driver. I dont plan on tracking any of my cars, so i dont have to have an insanely fast car. But i'd like to keep the car long enough so that in the future i can dump some money into it and do an overhaul and make a street monster.
hmm... maybe you should go with bmw then! and maybe down the road you can sell it and get the S4 when ur ready for a street monster... thats kinda what im doing!
I wanted an audi so i went for the 2.8 because right now i need a reliable car (being a college student isn't exactly cheap) that i can commute to school daily with, and after college i'll probably sell it and go with a 2.0t or an s4. I mean its not like you have to stick with it for the rest of ur life!

You're asking that question at an Audi Forum...you're most definitely going to get some answers that favor the side with the 4 rings
I'll state the obvious -- both cars are German and are going to have similar costs for parts/labor. The 2.7 biturbo in the S4 is more complex and will likely have more problems than the 328. However, the S4 will most certainly be faster and will have better traction. A 1.8t A4 would be a much better comparison for a 328is.
I would take the S4 over the 328 in a heartbeat. It's faster, AWD, handles better, has a nicer interior and has WAY more potential. If you want a car that you can drive stock now and mod later on -- don't even consider the 328.

That's why i asked on the audi forum. both are german vehicles. They have things in common, yet they are so different.....lol
they just are.
you ask too many questions lol jp
here is the simplest way i can put it.
the more parts it has the greater the chance of one breaking!
its not necesarily reliability we're talking about. its more like ownership cost or maintenance...

I think what meatbiscuit was stating was that the opinions on these forums will usually be biased, for obvious reasons.
^+1 Yup
Most people at this board probably aren't going to steer you into getting the 328 unless you can't afford the upkeep on the S4.
Also...
I think you read me wrong here...I never said an A4 was more reliable than the S4. I said the A4 would be a better comparison for the 328 -- in terms of performance. Comparing the S4 and the 328 is like comparing a Mustang GT to a V6 Camaro.
E36 M3 vs B5 S4 would be a better comparison. The 328 simply wont perform on the same level as the S4.
