Default Boost Problems...Opinions Please

Today I went to WOT when the car started to shake above 15psi, then eventually goes into limp mode. I put on my leak tester and no leaks. I can only test to about 5psi before the intake adaptor blows off. I also did a preliminary check of the TBBand it looks OK. I removed both DVs and ensured that they were sealing. No codes.

What do you guys think? I think I will order the Samco TBB anyway. I already have a SamcoF tube too.

OK, I just found a very small leak in the upper right (driver's side) intake hose. I don't know how this could cause the problem because it's on the low pressure side of the DV.

One other thing that could be related. I just put in Denso Iridiums a week ago. No problems initially, but now this. Just thought I would throw everything out there.

Swap back in the stock plugs & see if it goes away. My guess is misfires, but that should throw a code

Thanks, I'll do the plugsafter the TBB and upper hoses. I needed those anyway. Plugs were a PITA relatively speaking.

Good call 2K, I pulled the plugs and the Denso IK20s were gapped at .038. No wonder the spark was blowing out at high boost. I gapped them at .030 and it runs like a top. These plugs were supposed to be gapped at .032 according to their web site. Not sure what happened.

OK, it's still doing it. It just started today so the problem is intermittent. Although, I did get a cylinder 2 misfire code. Can this still be a boost leak? I called ECS and they said there's no way it could be a plug and I should check my coil packs or wiring. Today during WOT, I held it and let it buck for a couple of seconds and it went into limp mode and the CEL flashed for about 10 seconds then went out. I need to check to see if the same code registered or none at all since the light went out.

I'm think the vacuum leak I found initially is causing the misire due to unmeasured air causing a lean mixture. I ordered a Samco TBB and upper intake hoses to fix the leak. I'm not getting a very big response on this one. Maybe I should have put "pretty shiny rims" in the subject. Those threads seem to get hundreds of responses. Thanks for the response 2k.

it does sound like a misfire. I would switch the coil pack from cylinder 2, go make it miss and see if the misfire code switches to the other cylinder. Also you may look into the Ignition Control Modules... Though I don't know how to test them. Best of luck.

With a misfire, whoever told you it couldn't be the spark plug is a tool. Check your cyl. 2 plug. Swap it with a different cylinder's plug and see if the misfire changes cylinders. Also check your wires. My friend changed his plugs and one of his wires was touching the exhaust and melted right through. After that check your coils. If all of those things are fine, then it's something more serious. But that's the place to start.
