Default Buy with mods?

Im looking for a B5 S4 and i found a really nice one with low miles, and it has some mods(rs4 front bump. exhaust, etc. not sure about a chip...). So i am wondering is anyone has any opinions about buying a B5 S4 with mods is smart or should i go with a completely stock S4?

I am also planning on adding some things myself after i buy.

Well it doesnt seem to be too modded yet. I would guess that people who mod their engine are more likely to drive it especially hard. It's something to consider.

Agreed. I bought mine the way it is. I did get the extended warranty, we ran it through the dealer and got it certified. Cost more but worth it any day. Besides, you usually qualify for a better loan interest rate when its certified (interest rate through Audi financial). Still you have to be careful who you but it from. Make sure they were not some idiot who did 4 to 5 grand launches all the time or didn't let the turbo's cool down before turning the beast off. Good luck.

It sounds only lightly modded, which isn't a bad thing.

Also, even though its obvious a modded car was intended to be run hard, it could also be an indicative of a true enthusiast and (hopefully) someone who knew enough to both appreciate and take good care of his/her ride (keep up with maintenance, etc).

It's all about the test drive and general inspection. If it feels, sounds, drives good, it probably is. However, it's pretty much a 50/50 chance and you always have to keep in mind the negatives of buying such car.

When I got mine, there were actually 2 I could choose from. One was a 2001 (mine) and the other a 2001.5... Both silver, the .5 had the sports trim package... However, it also had a local tuning shop's license plate frames, and they specialize in S4's (including the APR chip), it was lowered so obviously had suspension done, and had upgraded wheels... What turned me off? The wheels were curbed beyond repair, so I know the guy wasn't careful (all 4 were banged up and scuffed all over, 1 of them was even bent). The interiors were all worn and the aluminum trim pieces had scrapes and dings on them (how did that happen?). The white'ish suade on the seats was all worn and stained. The car had a lot of scuff marks on its underbody and the bumpers were all scuffed up.

Anyways, the one I chose in the end, my 2001, looked like it had belonged to a family. You could see small marks on the rear seat consistant with a childseat, and small scuff marks on the back of the front seats consistant with legs kicking or going up and down on them... It's not as bad as it sounds, really, hehe... The car drove very smooth and both interior and engine bay looked remarkably clean. It has brand new hoses all over the engine bay, so they must've performed some sort of service (80k?) which may have included such replacements.

Half the fun of a modded car is performing the modifications. I personally prefer cars that are lightly or not modded at all.

Your choice?

Everyone is making good points. My preference would be a well maintained stock car that would be a great platform to add the mods you want. Then it really is your car. Of course take that with a grain of salt...I have no mods and don't plan on making any...

Hell yeah dude!

I have kids and take care of my car, a definite enthusiast too. Well done on the buy, I wouldn't have looked twice at the other one either after noting what you had noted. That other S4 sounds beat to hell. When they are beat to hell, you can just tell. When I bought mine, I talked to the guy for quite a while and asked a lot of questions but most of all, I just let him do the talking, you can tell a lot about a person and the car they are selling by just listening to them go on and on and on.

Thanks for all of the advice, I does sound more like an enthusiast owned car, than someone just looking to go ***** out fast.
