I have recently put 19" tires on my 2004 S-6 2.7T. The guy at the Audi dealership that sold me the car said that I could put 235's on the front and 245's on the rear. Last week I took my vehicle in for service and the service writer informed me that since I had Quattro on my vehicle, I needed the same size tires on all four rims. The difference is only 3/10ths of an inch between the two sizes. What if any detrimental effects will running the 2 different sizes have on the Quattro system?

bad idea. well actually my first thught is why. Waht are you really gaining in that extra 10mm in the back. Usually a staggered setup is a substantial difference. But i digress.... No, its not a good idea. if your rolling diameters are different you have axles spinning at different rates. If those axles are both being driven it puts stress on them..even if its minute.

Definately a bad idea. Like he said, with AWD you are putting a lot of stress on the tranny doing that. If you start beating it and certain tires lose traction it will be detrimental to the tranny.

Besides over working the center diff, the car would understeer even more. If anything, put the wider tires up front.
Oh, if you have ESP, it will drive it mad with staggered tires on.

RE: Can I put Staggered tires on a Quattro?
you can run staggered, not sure why but you can, you just have to make sure the diameters are EXACTLY the same..
so you can run (OF EXAMPLE) 225X40X18 in the front and 245X35X18 in the back.. ONLY if the diameters are the same.. there are many online calculators that you can use to figure it out...
But, it is not worth it, like everyone else has said..

thats not quite right duglas.. its close..but your still off by 4.25 mm on each sidewall.. i.e. rolling diameter would be off by 9 mm. Basically its pretty much impossible to make them exactly the same.

its not impossible just really hard lol but it can be done

NO...you would throw off the steering that audi has done a decent job of. the awd on the r8 is different and could allow for staggered but the a6 etc has different awd. there is no doubt staggered would stress the awd.
