I got an S4 year 2000 manual my dad said he got a chip installed that cuts of the RPM at 4000 and also that this goes in effect when I use my key and not the original. Does anyone know wether this is true and if anyhting nows the name of the company that makes the chip....

Are the APR tuning RS4 turbochargers a good buy for this audi?

 

...sounds to me like you should just drive it and find out. I suppose it's possible. Just tell your dad you are afraid of merging on the highway at 35 mph. If your dad is limiting the car to 4000 RPM's it sounds like the RS4 (k04) turbos are out of the question.

how weird is this... A. how protective is the father..and B. if hes this **** about it, why does he let you get the car in the first place.

Anyways.... Ive heard of chips (on a porsche at least) that have a "valet" mode.. where it does similar things basically limiting the rpm's thus the the valet guy cant take your car for a joy ride.. I havent heard this used on an audi, but i suppose its possible. Now, if you do a bit of research, the chip is just a setting and can probably be turned off and back to its appropriate race setting [8D]

 

APR makes a valet mode on the chip, I'm sure you can check out their web page to find out how to turn it off. It's not coded to the keys, he is messing with you.

Yes, the APR K04 kit would work, but you might want to take it over 4000rpms[:@]

 

Im thinking it could possibly be key coded... (maybe not apr but another tuner) but im not positive

 

a couple of tricks come to mind here, altering the accelerator peddle stop screw so you cant get full throttle, unhooking the turbo gate valve rod, loosening the throttle cable so full throttle cant be achieved, setting the speed limiter

its called cotton wool syndrome (wrap them in enough of it and they wont get hurt) and as his father he has that right although most take it over the limit and some do it out of spite because they didn't get that opportunity

 

I understand.. Just when your too overprotective, when the kid is finally let go.. They GO NUTS!!!.. Im a pretty firm believer in this. Ive had friends and people ive met that had both a very free childhood to a very strict childhood. the ones that were more free had more of a tendency to keep things in line as well as more open with their parents. Where as the stricter childhoods the kids when they went to college went nuts.... party all the time. Kind of like the preachers daughter sort of thing.

But on topic.. if he doesnt want him to drive fast and scared of that..why buy him the car.
