chipped?
So i asked this question a while ago and the responses made me decide my car was not chipped. I was going to go to the shop this weekend to get an apr chip for my s4, but this weekend when a friend rode with me in my car he claimed my car was already chipped for sure im not sure weather to believe him or not, this brings me to my dilemma again because i don't wanna pay for something i already have. Yes i know drive it over 155 mph and its chipped or find someone with a chipped s4, I tried can't find one. SO is there a definitive way i can open my ecu and see if its chipped? I mean there must be something i can look at to see if its not stock?
I just got my S4 a few weeks ago and I popped the ecu out and there were no markings. I just installed my AWE boost gauge last night and I'm boosting 15-18 psi so I now know that the car is chipped. Might want to buy a boost gauge anyway, valuable tool.
yea the problem is i'm short on money and those boost gauges are ridiculous priced through apr and awe. I really wanted to get it done this weekend but i dunno now lol... if im not mistaken you can get a cheap *** boost gauge at autozone but if i did where would i mount it? i mean i don't want the car to look like crap
Maybe they put a sticker on the ecu you can check for that, but I'm pretty sure most, if not all, "chips" for the B5 S4 are ecu flashes and therefore wouldn't really have anything to show for.
Do you by chance have an AVIC D3? There is a screen on that which will show G forces of acceleration, and I can pull slightly over .5 g of acceleration. I guess if you have anything that will measure Gs you could check it out against that.

no, i don't have that... I dunno its kinda bothering me i just wanna be sure for this weekend. My dad does have vag com software and an obd2 plug for it... Iv heard that i might be able to tell using the software any ideas how i would?
you can measure boost with the vagcom, not 100% accurate - you need to subtract the base pressure from the readings, but this will give you an estimate of boost and should be conclusive
Or - you could do some 0-60mph runs and clock the time and compare this to a stock car
Or - you can build a g-force measurement device (with a pendulum or something) and figure out the g's

id almost be tempted to try the zero to 60 time method, but i dont wanna be rough on my car and speed shift etc, could i get a rough estimate if i do it from like a light launch or will that throw everything off, and what times should i be looking for? maybe i could try 60-100? any idea?

This site says 5.9s for 0-60mph in a manual: http://www.audiworld.com/model/s4/01/specs.shtml
I dont know how much a chip improves your 0-60 times but it could easily be within the limits of error
if you have access to a vagcom, than that would be the easiest, most conclusive method - atleast in my A4 I was able to read boost of 17-18psi, which is clearly chipped - this site will give you info on that: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...+measure+boost
and you should become familar with the vagcom anyways

just buy a cheap boost gauge to find out how much boost you've got... don't worry about mounting it.... just use it for the test.. then sell it or something
also, not sure on the b5 s4's but my b5 a4 and b6 s4's revlimiter's both are allowed to go higher than they did with stock programing... so an easy was to tell would be to try taking up the rpm's in first or second only... (for engine safety and your speed safety)
...i'd say if your rpm's go up past 7k or so your mosy likely chipped...
