I was looking at the AWE tuning site and I saw that theres the X chip and the complete GIAC Chip. It said that the complete you get your stock ecu and the chipped ecu. How does that work? Is it in the same chip but there is different settings? one for stock and one for performace? Does anyone have the complete? is it any better than the X?

 

There is nothing better than X........... X rules.

I'd call AWE to clarify, however I think they used to actually replace your stock chip with one that had the GIAC X software on it, however now they just reflash your ecu.

I would recommend finding either another stock ECU to get chipped/reflashed or search the classifieds and ebay for a used one. Its nice to have the option to go back to stock with a 5 minute ECU swap.

I think there is only one GIAC chip/reflash/software which is X. That is unless you go stage 3, then there is specific GIAC software for that.

I believe ASP (Autospeed) has their own chip/software now as well that I'd be curious to see how it does against the rest....especially since their Stage 3 software/tuning is so successful

 

So either way you have to send your stock ecu or a stock ecu into the company and they send it back but its chipped?

 

Yes.

 

There is no chip.

What they do is "Flash" the eprom.

They load the X program on there, and then move the stock program to another empty space in the eprom.
They also also load a "Kill" & 100oct programs in there.

You need a vag cable & laptop or the GIAC switcher to change between the programs.
