Hi Everyone,

I have an 01 S4, and he engine light comes on and off. It will stay on for a couple of weeks and go out for a couple of days and come back on. I brought it to Autozone and they said it is due to bad air and fuel mixture. What do you think?

Could be any number of things - O2 sensor failure, occasional cylinder misfires, temp sensor, intermitent boost leak, any or all of the above or something else...the key is in the codes. Even if problem temporarily resolves 9then comes back again - which it will) - the cose should have a record of exactly what went wrong (though not necessarily why...)

 

Do you have the exact fault code from autozone? Without it there isn't much we can help you with.

 

It sounds like they didn't want to tell you everything. A wrong A/F mixture sounds close to a bad o2 sensor. But like Jestnomen said without the code we can't do much.

 

I have 2000 S4 and have the same problem aswell. I had three Audi machanics read off the codes as the catalytic which will link to the o2. Resolution; replace the cat.
