When its warmer out (85+) I notice a bit more turbo lag with the K04s then I had with the K03s...would this K03 hybird kit have less lag? (Not that I'm taking out my K04s!) - just curious. In some ways - during the summer and when just puttering about town (or commuting through neigborhood streets with lots of stop & go) - I find that I hardly even engage the K04s - cus if they do engage I have to back off right away - so in some ways this type of driving is less satisfying at Statge III. Much better in the cooler weather though...and really not so bad..but lag is noticeable when its hot out and K04s don't engage quite as quickly. My impression is that Labree split DPs might help this a bit as well (I have AWE/McNeils)...I love this car & the Stage III - but sometimes I get frustrated - always having to hold back - otherwise I'm extra legal real quick...still I do have my fun. I opened it up briefly from about 65-70 to 130 out on the Beltway earlier today....and a motorcycle had trouble keeping up (couldn't keep up!) with me (I did it in one downshift & a WOT burst)...it felt real good!

hmm, the only thing i would think that makes your turbo "lag" is the exhaust. usually that happens with people that have massive 4 or 5 inch exhaust outlets... horrible lag sometimes and will eventually lead to catistrophic failure of the turbo's/engine. but surely no Audi driver puts a massive can like that on the back of their stylish german ride

Its a slight lag...not a massive lag - and its not the exhaust - I don't think...exhaust is fine

heh, i'm just messin'

i would think that's something normal for the larger K04's especially on hot days.

Id like to see dyno plots on teh hyrbids making more power than a tuned k04.. I have yet to see it. For the extra money and risk your taking with the hyrbids there hasnt been shown significant gains out them to make it worth it.

Not denying the k03 hybrids dont as i dont know much about them..but do they really reign in that much power..do you have anything to back that as well. Actually i dont necessarily dont deny that.. You can get about jsut as much power out of the k03's..but youre over exerting them as well as the restriction of air flow on the hot side like you guys said.

I'd call the k03/k16 hybrids as close to a stage 3 as it comes. Honestly I like them more than the straight k04's I had in. I'm sending the k04's out to jacob to be built into the k04/k24 hybrids for my next project and a lot more power. The power potential for the k03/k16 is almost the exact same as the k04's 480hp vs 500hp roughly. I do agree that the smaller hot side wheel is the problem with these and that's where the extra couple hp lay. However they do make a very cost effective option for a lot of people. I personally only went with them because I couldn't find a set of k04's in stock anywhere but I'm very happy with them.
I have a hard time seeing a K03 based turbo making more power then a K04 based.
Not saying you can make the same as a K04, but where the K03 is at 145% the K04 is at 85%.
I really see then running out of steam at the higher RPM range.
When you are spinning little K03's that fast, they are destined to not last long.

What PSI are you running? Have you had the car on the Dyno? It would nice to see what K03 Hybrids do compared to a solid STG II++.

Most of us upgrade to K04's for the lower shaft speeds, that will make them last a lot longer then K03's.
Of course they also flow more @ any given PSI.

Sadly there is really not an awd dyno around and I don't have the fueling yet. I'm planning on the dyno this spring after fueling and tuning. Right now I have the GIAC X chip which will boost to 23 psi before settling down to around 20. I lift and shift at around 18. The car feels much faster, lag is much less than with the k04's but top end is about the same. Probably a little faster off the line and little less top end. I like the idea of the k04 hybrids for more flow, and I'm driving these for a couple months to test the reliablilty of Buehn hybrids, plus I already have the set of blown turbos to rebuild and upgrade so the cost isn't too much and with being able to do the swap from the front I'm not too worried about the labor.

I love the idea of the gt25 kit, I'd like to build a gt28 kit, but right now it's not cost effective 12-15 grand for the kit is high, but you get massive power. Once the garrett kits get out there and drop a little in price it might be worth it.
