Default Gonna get a 01 S4~~need help

Hi, Hopefully, I am gonna become one member of you guys.....
all kidding outside, I found one 01 black on black currently asking for $19900 about 90000km/60000miles
it comes with all maintiance recorde, however, by testing drive the car it reflects it's the fancy car and pretty fast at boost. So I decided tobuy it .However, the Center screen displays the MPG scared me off, it initially shows 25L/100 (12mpg), and it keeps going up at the time I parked the car. After couple minutes it reached 50L/100kms ( the car still parking there before drove it) . The dealer told me that's not the problem they will look at it. but that reminds me very bad image of S4. have you guys had this kind of situation before?? was that normal?? I was told the MPG will be influenced by chipped, I am pretty sure this one has beenchippped too. but by just observing the MPG keep falling before driving, that is horrible. I know people buy this car is about the performance, but 12MPG seems like there must be something wrong with the car? am i right? if so by observing this issue, is that necessary for me to but that car?? please give me a little direction?

the MPG reflects how the car is driven.

With a chip and a heavy foot I get anywhere between a bunch of dashes to 8 or 12 mpg. It only takes a couple minutes of hard driving to trash the MPG reading, and it can take 1/2 a tank or more (couple hundred miles) of driving easily with the chip off for the computer to read a more accurate fuel economy above 20mpg. There are actually 2 modes to fuel ecomomy guage, instantaneous, and average. They have both for a reason haha, that behavior sounds normal.

Sounds like a nice car though, kind of expensive id probably try to work them down a little but if its in good condition... I paid $24,000 for mine 2 years ago with 53,000 and full service records, i wanted it bad though

Welcome to the forums and good luck

push and hold the button on the bottom to reset it. if u drive spiritedly it's going to reflect that 12-15 mpg prob.. but on highways its around 24-26mpg... I always have it onthe "miles leftuntil empty" reading.
Also, has the timing belt and water pump been replaced?.. it probably hasn't so try and get $1,000 knocked off just for that. ask for $18K

I felt better after you saying that, this car is eating gas monster~~

anyhow about the price, since I was in Canada, and I hope I can get a little bit lower than that.I tried to work it out around 18000.thx for you advance!!

another concern, the car has been chipped as I mentioned earilier, the engine light turns on when I driving it, what kind of problem normally as the result of that?

No, I checked the record the timing belt haven't been replaced yet. but this car did last full maintaince at Nov 11 2007 and replaced banch of sensor or something that cost around 1000 too. but I am pretty sure the time belt haven't been replaced.

What's the maximun milage this car can last for before replace the timing belt?

the CEL (check engine light) means an assoprtment of things could be going on and the only way to diagnose the problem would be to log the car and see what codes that thing is spitting out. you would need a VAG-Com to check the codes.. an autoparts store or shop may be able to check them for free for you.
Its' recommended that you change your TB (and water pump)at 70K, although Audi says something like 105K. you do not want that to fail on you or you could need a new engine.
