Default is this a good deal on a s4?

I am really interested in buying an audi s4. I rencently found a silver 2002 audi s4 for $16,999. i called the guy, who works at the small dealer, and he told me that he had just got the car from a bmw dealer as a trade-in. the car has a clean tittle has 72k miles. i am going to look at it this weekend and just want to know what to look for. Did 2002 have any problems? the guy at the dealer said that he likes the car so much, he drives it home and has put 500 miles on it. He also tells me how the car runs like it has 15k miles and how hes almost sure that they are fwy miles. the guy seemed honest, but then again he's a car salesman. what do you guys think?

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Make sure the car has had its timing belt change done because it can be pretty expensive.

Default proof = receipt

proof = receipt, either its in the glovebox, or you can get servicing dealer to print out given VIN, assuming a audi/vw dealer did it and logged in too.

Might want to get proof of oil changes, although you can spot sludge right inside oil cap looking in with light.

I suggest buying a $60 OBD2 reader and checking any audi/vw car you buy (dont ask, google obdII reader). They come with code sheet and are quite useful once you own the car.

Finally read FAQ here and at www.audiworld.com there are essays on what to look out for and what to expect to fix/upgrade (2 diverter valves for starters).

Finallly again get a good traffic lawyer on retainer, this is a very fast car.

i'm kinda starting to think this car wont be what i was looking for. the only thing that makes me think twice is the turbos, how much do they usually go for to be upgraded to ko4?

to be quite honest with you.. i would naturally think there is something wrong with it. that is hella cheap. The rough suggested retail on an 02 with that kind of miles is 24k and change. In your last post are you saying that it is upgraded to k04 or you wnat to know how much it is to upgrade to k04. if its upgraded to k04..then great you dont need to worry about the turbos... if you want to buy a stage 3 kit..its about 7 grand. to just get k04s i belive you can find them some where between 1-2 grand. but then you need someone to install it or else do it yourself.

I would also recomend calling an Audi dealership. I did this for my car and all the dealerships are connected so you can see what has been done to your audi, when it has been done, and ifanything at all hans been done. the techs have been more nthen helpful in telling me what had been fdone to mine before I bought it.

^Likewise, I did a lot of research on mine. I looked on Carfax, called the Audi dealer that the guy serviced his car at, and found info on the previous owner. I also test drove quite a few other S4s, before the one I bought. You can really tell which ones have been abused and which ones have not. So if there is an Audi dealer nearby with a CPO S4 (usually in really good shape) then go test drive that and compare it to how the '02 S4 you are looking at drives. Hope this helps.
Oh, and your S4 should be just as reliable as you treat it, if you treat it nice it will return the favor.
