Is this a good plan for first mods?
Please no flames I did a search and found some conflicting results. Some said Chip others said I/E/Dpipes. Here is my planned attack path.
APR DVs
APR Bi-Pipe upgrade
Vent replacement Boost guage from APR
AWE/APR Chip
Clean up some of the sloppyness in the shifter - Need advice on this one
I'm not looking for the most powerful car out there so huge numbers aren't in my future for long time. The exhaust seems to be very expensive for the gains you get. EM seems the best first mod on most FI cars or at least with the research I've done thats true. I just lost my 04 WRX in an accident and decided on the S4 as her replacement. So far I'm very happy with the car. I was considering the S4 when I got my Rex a year and a half ago but got too good of a deal on the Subie at the time. My favorite part of the car over the subie? The solid sound I get when I shut the car door. Lol stupid? Maybe but its just a good sign of the overall fit and finish of the car as compared to the Subaru
Look forward to meeting some of you guys in the Mid Atlantic as well.
Happy motoring

welcome to the forum jermdogg143, im new the forum as well, but the plan sounds good, as i read yea you should change the DV's and TBB before you chip it, I say go for it. just see what others have to say.
changing your DV before a chip is never a bad thing, especially after the massivly increased PSI you're gonna be getting from those biturbos. It's sort of a precautionary measure though, and a nice start to you're modding frenzy, it's a pretty easy install from what i hear.
Cudos man, and there's NOTHING wrong with a stock S4

Dooooode I love your Sig! Classic
I try to err on the side of safety when possible. On a brighter note I just sold the UTEC computer from my WRX tonight and will be able to get my Chip this weekend.

lol, ty, i try
yeah, sounds like you've got one sweet ride comin up! your stock DV will hold for a little while, not like it's gonna blow first time you hit the streets. but it isn't gonna last long
a little reading wil go a long way if you have no clue which DV to go to. i've heard good things about Forge, dunno about APR though. make sure you research and make sure the DV can handle ALL the mods you plan for the future. no sense buying a DV you're gonna upgrade later anyway.

Actually I'm looking at the Baileys DVs from AWE. They seem pretty nice. Would like to hear anyones take on them before I buy though.
Really looking forward to getting the car firmed up a bit. Seems like a wonderful platform to start with and I love the fit and finish of the car. Very impressed with it. I'm getting used to the shifter more and am in love with the interior lights. I guess its the small things for me.
My goals are around 250-275 HP at the wheels with a very stock like Power curve. One thing I really like is how smoothly the car accelerates from just about any RPM, thats very different from the WRX. It was very peaky.
I have ranted enough,
Jerm - Oh and you'll have to get used to my ramblings, I love to talk cars

lol, we all do here
250-275? you're at 250 stock dude. after your chip, an exhaust and a CAI you'll be good to go man! as for your shifter, which i forgot to comment on earlier; you should look into a short throw shift kit, assuming you have a manual. it does WONDERS and you will have a blast with your car, i promise

Oh I know I will.
My stepdad drove my car last night and he liked it very much. Hes got a 1st generation 3KGT VR4 that hes toying with. As for the power I thought the 250hp on the S4 was at the crank. Which should mean around 195-210 at the wheels(something like that) depending on the Dyno used. Does the short shift kit replace any of the stock bushings? I love the throw of the shifter but it has a little slop in it. Not that its bad by any means, I don't think I've driven any stock car that did not have some "wiggle" in the shifter.
Thanks for all the replies. Now I need to look for a Mid-Atlantic section on this forum

Decided to get the 710's an upgraded TBB and the Vent boost guage. Saved alot not getting the Bi-pipe or Bailey DVs plus after reading I didn't feel for the way I use the car that they were needed. I may have to switch to them eventually but not for a long time. Still on hold about the chip since I don't know if the used one will fit or not. If that falls through I'll just get a new one from AWE. Oh and I think my goals have changed. I think 300WHP would be nice. That was my goal for the WRX and I was 70 short of it when the winter claimed her. 300 should be pretty easy from this car.
Thanks for the input on this

300 will be a piece of cake. i think the 250 is at the wheels. short throw will definatly get rid of the wiggle, and if like the throw now, you'll LOVE it when you're done. IMO APR is hte best chip, i wouldn't go GIAC. sounds too harsh for the lifetime of the car. i dunno about the S4... but i know APR is even more powerful than GIAC for the A4.. and a smoother revband
