so... i hate to say it.. but i have gone to the dark side.. that is right.. i sold my sick S4 and switched to BMW.. i now own a 2002 BMW M5.. and i hate to say it but it is far better than my S4.. so.. so long, farewell, adn good bye

 

I'd hate to say it, but I'm jealous. What are the details of the M...miles, price/if you don't mind telling me. I'm selling my B5 S4 and would like to one day own the M5...what are the major differences from your personal experience.

I hate to hear it! but the M5 is a awesome car. get a stage 3 Dinan kit from Bmw. they are warrentied and make that car a rocket!
Ac schnitzer exhaust as well will make that sound mean! Sorry to hear you went to the darkside but at least its still german!

 

The cars are not even in the same league. New the S4 was what $45k, the M5 was around $80k.

Yes, they are better in most respects compared to the S4. They have more interior room, awesome engine, great handling, great brakes, etc...
But just wait till you take an M car into the shop!!!!!!! M parts are usually 3X more then regular BMW parts! They also require a lot more maintaince then Audi's & other BMW's in general. The E39 M5 is more on par with the 03 RS6.

I've gone the other way, I traded in my 5er for the S4, and sold my M3 early in the year. I was thinking about getting an M5, but the S4 was a lot more on par with what I wanted to spend. It's nice not having a car payment.

Mods are also hard to come by for the M5, there isn't a ton out there. Dinan makes good stuff, but is overpriced, and their power claims are over rated. ACS stuff will just leave your wallet empty. $500 for a Dead pedal, up, that's what they go for!

But that dam Go pedal is so addicting! Since it's RWD, take it easy for a while, it's no where near as forgiving as the S4 is. And it doesn't plow like a stuck pig.

Congrats on the new purchase. You don't have to leave the forum though. Still a good place for info and to chill! I don't like the older bimmers though. The're just too bland to me. Engine wise, they are great!! Have fun!

 

.... how can we hate you? It's an M5, the best model for that matter, too. Just be sure to get a full exhaust for the car and video tape it for us to make up for the upset.
