Hello All... Looking at an S4!
So, I went and test drove a 2002 Audi S4 today. It has 74K miles on it. All the maintenance records are with it and it has had the timing belt/waterpump replaced already. I drove it around and it feels strong and smooth. No rattles or clunks or anything like that. They are asking 18K for it but I found out when I opened the hood after driving it that the valve cover is leaking on the passenger side. I was able to talk them down to about 14K for it! I have a 99.5 a4 1.8T with a full K04 upgrade. I told them I wanted 10K for it and they said they could probably do that! So my question is, what else should I look for in the car before getting it? Also it IS a tip tronic tranny so I am wondering how much power that will handle (I will search also). What do you think I should do? I am thinking that this is a REALLY good deal. The sales guy is really cool and is not pressuring me into anything and I can tell he is really here to help me out and not just get a sale. Any input would be great. Thanks.
Josh
**EDIT**
I did read the Stickies. It just didn't answer all my questions. Also I am searching around right now for some of the other questions I had but am not really finding anything.

CVboot is least of worries, double check that valve cover gasket, might just be Cam seals as which it usually is. get the car on the lift and check out all the motor and tranny mounts at that milage and is there any whine at all in the turbos, not just spooling but an actual whine, I also bought my 02 with 70-72k on the clock and ive been riddled with repairs in the past two years, However i probably drive it a little harder than the average.
Good Luck
PICS!

When I drove it there was no whine at all with the turbos. I was listening closely to it and was thinking, WOW this car is really quite compared to mine. So the turbo's sound fine. Also how do I check the motor mounts. And what types of problems have you had?

you could see a rip or severe wear in the mounts, honestly though its only fifty bucks for a new snub mount, and the tranny ones are close or right by/above the front axles running to the sides of the tranny, the braket for the tranny is above that as well
Ok cool.
No one more question... I am planning on going Stage 3 with it eventually. i have been reading around and it looks like the stock tip tronic tranny will handle the power. Or am I mistaken? Also how hard is it to do that yourself? I know you have to pull the engine but I have friends with garages and all the tools. I have done a lot of stuff on my car (TB, turbo upgrade, ect.. ect..)
