help with 95 S6

help with 95 S6
ok so i'm new here so if i don't do something right then please dont be offended 
ok so onto the problems... i got a 1995 audi s6 2.2L in november and one thing i noticed was that the speedometer is showing 8mph less than what i'm actually going. we tested it not really effectively but i drove along side my father in an 05 yukon denali and we set the cruise controls and just played around with the speeds to come to the point that its showing around 8mph less. now it has a performance chip installed in it and i've been told that these chips can sometimes mess around with the speedometer but i'm not quite sure. the other problem (more serious) is the thermostat... it was like this ever since i bought the carwith the previous owner but theguage on the dashboard shows nothing and after a good 1.5 hours of driving the car was getting warm. i have a new thermostat ready to be replaced but i'm wondering if this really is the problem (maybe someone here has had the same problem before). ok so keep in mind that i'mnew here andnew to the road as well

There is a sending unit for the guage. My old C4 Audi had issues with the coolant temp gauge working intermittently. I never messed with it but I could tell the temp by accessing the readout in the climate control head unit.
Most of the people on here have B5 and B6/B7 S4's. I think there is maybe one other C4 S4/S6 car here. You'd have better luck getting specific answers from the urS car forum on Audiworld. But that doesn't mean you can't post here and share stuff with us. I'm a big fan of urS4/S6 cars. I would like to buy my friends 95 S6 he is selling but I already make payments on my S4.
