Default Help! Just installed the new GIAC ECU, can't get the software to work

Hey I just put in my new ECU with all 5 of GIAC's programs on it.I am trying to get the flashloader (switcher) program to work on my laptop, connected with a VAG cable. I can't seem to get the software to work. I downloaded their flash loader program, pointed to the drivers that came on the cd with the VAG cable, it said it installed and then when I open the flashloader program and hit READ it ssays the USB cannot be found. Can anyone give me a 3rd grade style walkthrough on getting the software to let me switch programs? Laptops running windows XP.

yeah go to giac and get there program for free that have on the website and that will work. you are trying to you the vag com and look at your car, it can only work with a serial port not a usb, so also go to best buy and get a serial to usb cable and you can use it. I ran into the same problem when i got my vag com.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I'm not sure I am explaining myself correctly though. I have the program from GIAC. The cable that came with the ECU is a usb on one end and the other end is whatever the connection is called that goes in under your steering wheel. So I plugged the one end into the port in my driver's side footwell, and the other end (usb)into my pc. I am not using any actual VAG software. I think I should be able to use it like this, I looked at some usb to serial connecters and they are for turning something with a serial port into a USB, not the other way around. If I did in-fact need a USB to serial connectorit would need to have a FEMALE usb plug on one end and a serial to plug into my laptop on the other end. Do they even sell those? ALl the convertors I saw online were MALE (regular) usb plugs.Should that even be nessaccary(sp?)?

I had the same problem, I asked the guy I bought it from what I might be doing wrong. He told me to uninstall the flash loader, and reinstall it with the VAG cable I'm my UBS port and to make sure its not plugged into the car. I'd say try that if you haven’t already, if you have good luck.

Well I go the VAG software to work with this cable so I know its possible. I know you have to dissconnect from the car to change between flashloader and VAG. Still can't get the flashloader to READ.
