How fast is a E46 M3.. people say that a modified B5 Audi S4 (exhuast, chip, intake, diverter valves) can keep with it or be in the lead...but its just too expensive...!!!!

With the mods you listed above, it will more than just keep up with an E46 M3... With just chip it will keep up, if you have the 93 octane tune.

However, where the M3 shines is in the top end. The stock K03's in the S4 aren't necessarily focusing on top end and the M3 will have an edge at high speeds.

With the mods you listed, you should be able to give it a good run. With K04's, you're in a different league altogether. At that point you'll be closer to hunting for C6 Vettes.

 

When you ask 'how fast' are you looking for straight line, haul-butt, dragstrip-fast or road course, many twisty turns-fast?

Speaking from experience both cars are quick, and in the hands of a well exprienced diver, under similar conditions and setup, either can hold its own.

Im talking about how would a E46 m3 compare to the Audi S4... lets say on the street.. light to light racing. i would think that the audi s4 would win because it has awd for a superb launch. otherwise there both quick.. On the highway i think that E46 would win becuase of its top end speed and RWD....

one more thing.. what about torque and the pull.
When i drove in my cousins 1999 E36 M3 It breaks your neck, when you accelerates.. or from like 35-50mph

So im thinking the E46 would be a even more powerful pull.. soo would the Audi S4 pull hard as well...with a quick response.

 

This topic's been covered on a lot of other forums, as well as the trade / auto mag websites. Google M3 v. S4 and you'll have a lot to choose from. All things being equal (fuel, driver, conditions, etc.), the m3 may have the slight edge in all categories, the awd system adds a bit of weight to the car (~400lbs?), and IMO, anything that adds weight certainly affects performance. Then again, I don't recall seeing an s4 in the american lemans series.

 

The M3 also has a much better suspension. It will definitely outhandle an S4, stock for stock.

 

I owned a 98 M3. When she was stock, I was pretty even with an S4 (perhaps a little less HP). Once I modded it though, it was all over. I was probably around 300hp where the current M3 is and I have to say I don't think that a stock S4 (B5) can keep up with the newer M3. I don't care if the S4 has quattro, the M3 will out class it in just about any event. Handling, acceleration, top-end.... etc. The quattro will enable the S4 not to break loose from a hard accleration from stop, but a good driver will be able to hook up the M3's massive rwd tires. But then again the E46 is a newer car than the B5. So if you take a newer S4, then we're talking about a good match up.

 

or the b5 s4 stage 2 would take it.

 

I did a really silly thing today... Found myself in traffic behind a brand new M3, with blacked out glass, and Automobilia Tuning stickers. I had always wondered how my 2001 GIAC S4 would do vs that car,'cause one of my buddies has a 1993 that I have smoked. So, as traffic lightened up, and he floored it, so did I. I could have passed him at about 100. he pulled away a bit around 120, and I caught up with him at 145, when traffic slowed us both down to respect other peoples right to travel safely. T'was a rush, and fortunately there was no one around that we put in any jeopardy. Don't know what an E46 is, but this was the latest model, all souped up.

the m engine is pretty crazy. if the m3 was still n/a with lots of bolt ones, then a modded s4 would take it, with turbos done and everything. if u turbo an m3, or even supercharge it, the s4 would have to be really done up to keep up/beat the m3
