Default humming

05 S4 Cab.
there is a strange humming sort of hi-pitch, but not a squeek, that happenes when the car is cold. it hasn't been cold, cold, yet...i know that sound, but even when temps are in the 40's, it makes this noise for longer than i think it would for it being a cold engine.
and it feels strange, almost like it's in the breaks and i'm driving with the brakes stuck while i'm accelerating. i'll take it in soon for regular service, but i don't know how to describe this and the car probably won't make the sound the day i go to take it in.

Q: any ideas as to what this is or what i might ask for them to look at?

Fuel pumps are sometimes loud at start up. My fuel pump just started getting loud with first snow fall...Is it loud near your rear tire?

Does it make the sound only when the car is in motion? If so, does the sound change with your speed?

sorry, i don't know how to do double quotes.

sound doesn't change with speed and is the same at idle.
i lifted the hood and i couldn't pin point where it was coming from. i'll try again.

but why would i feel some kind of resistance when i'm driving. it's very slight.

i had this car last winter and the sound wasn't there.

My guess is a loose belt, or your power steering fluid is low, or your fuel pump is whining a little, or...?
